To register, call 507-352-4255 7:00pm Performance with discussion following Tickets: no charge (Pay what you can) DreamAcres Farm will host As the Rhythm Changes, a performance evening by Mankwe Ndosi and collaborating artists, on Saturday, July 31 at 7pm. A vocal workshop workshop which is open to the public will take place from 5:30 to 6:15 prior to the performance. There is no charge for the evening, though contributions will be accepted on a "pay-what-you-can" basis. As the Rhythm Changes is a song cycle about how daily rhythms change in the face of bigger personal or societal events. Ms. Ndosi has developed the piece through a series of workshops conducted in three Minnesota communities, one of which was Wykoff. The performance includes songs, dances and custom-designed instruments which reflect topics discussed during the workshops. Video footage of performances given in May at Dreamland Arts in St. Paul will also be shared. Ms. Ndosi's work is supported by funding through the Mcknight Foundation. Mankwe Ndosi has been working in and across disciplines of music, theatrical performance, and dance for the last 15 years, with a critical focus on improvisation and exploration of vocal texture. She works in creative music with AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicains) composers Douglas R. Ewart/Orchestra Inventions and Nicole Mitchell/Black Earth Ensemble. She is a studio and touring vocalist with the Hip-Hop group Atmosphere For persons interested in understanding the vocal process behind As the Rhythm Changes, a workshop will be offered before the performance piece. Ms. Ndosi will teach with collaborating artist Alejandra Tobar Alatriz, who has been working on Global Somatics grounding as as a foundation for movement & sound making work. The Dreamery Rural Arts Initiative is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting and expanding performing arts experiences in rural Fillmore County.
